Background
Universal News is the largest independent retailer of magazines in New York City and the largest independent retailer of International Press in the USA. It was founded over 25 years ago and has nine locations in Manhattan. Their objective was to exploit their position as premiere retailer of domestic and foreign press in New York City, while capitalizing on the efficiencies and reach that an online business can provide.

Solution
In order to reach its objectives Universal News needed a distribution partner and a virtual presence to complement its retail stores. Universal teamed up with Mitchell’s New York, another long established independent company specializing in providing distribution services to the publishing industry. The two companies chose EZ Marketing to design and create the Universal News On Demand website (www.universalnewsondemand.com).

Result
EZ Marketing Group created the Universal News On Demand site – a specialized e-commerce solution and virtual storefront. With approximately 6000 title on offer, the challenge was to build a graphical user interface that was simple to navigate for the customer and a back office administration system that was easy to manage for the client. Customers can search by category, title and alphabetically. Universal can easily use a secure administration panel to manage, inventory, prices, customers and orders. There is also a facility to create promotional opportunities for publishers by featuring titles on the home page, category view, and checkout – all easily managed by the client.
